Do Smart Electric radiators really save money?

Marketing material says that they will switch off when the set temperature in the room is reached, and also switch themselves off when the door or window is left open, saving wasted energy trying to maintain temperature in a room where the heat is escaping.  This is a very useful feature, if it works. Every Smart Electric Heater from ASH, is individually controlled, with its own thermostat, temperature selection and digital programmer, using between 1KW and 2KW to heat the room on initial switch on, depending on the radiator size. With our smart radiators, your electric energy will be used much more efficiently, the smart radiators use a dedicated heating management learning application to adjust the temperature according to the time of the day, presence, your lifestyle or the climate outside.

Why replace Storage Heaters?

Old storage heaters do not have any temperature or timing controls, resulting in the house being too hot during the day and running out of heat at night when you need it most. Storage Heaters were developed more than 50 years ago to work on an Economy 7 tariff, Economy 7 electricity tariffs work alongside Economy 7 meters which is a two-tariff metered system, more expensive during the ‘on peak’ day period, and cheaper ‘off peak’ at night midnight to seven am. Utilities across the world have been moving very cautiously away from fossil fuels, over the past decade, with the vast majority adopting a passive approach to managing their portfolios and only a small share actively shifting to green energy. The low cost renewable electricity is now starting to replace fossil fuels:

  1. Electricity today has moved away from the old fossil fuel processes, with coal fired power stations decommissioned and replaced by wind and solar powered electricity, which now accounts for a massive 73% of total consumption that uses renewable and green electricity creation.
  2. The EU and British Governments adopted into Legislation ECODESIGN LOT 20 Regulations for all electric radiators, three years ago, and the ‘knowledge’ of this legislation has not been publicised, and its compliance in the manufacturing sectors has not been policed or monitored by British Government.

When a storage heater runs out of charge, from the very minute it stops charging, it begins to lose a large amount of heat until there’s nothing left, the charge runs out in average around 2pm, and your home will remain unheated until the following day. In a time when the scourge of fuel poverty shows little sign of abating, many tenants huddle around costly, and often inefficient storage heaters.

Need a new boiler? Should I replace my Gas, LPG boiler?

If your gas boiler is reaching the end of its working life, the decision to replace it with a new one, or to make the change to a green energy system is a big one. Especially with the current activity on climate change, with official government advice telling us that 80% of existing homes who are using gas, LPG heating will need to switch to low-carbon heating by 2050.

Boilers banned from 2025 - The British Government have already announced a total ban on any Gas boiler being installed into new built houses from 2025, which is just over 5 years away. This means all new build properties and currently doesn’t apply to refurbishments or to existing houses – but this could change in a flash of a new White Paper, for a new government wanting to maintain their ecology voters.

What are the Benefits of changing heating system?

There are many benefits to removing a fossil fuel heating system and replacing it with low-carbon electric central heating, not just in reducing carbon emissions, but in more accurate temperature control, individual temperature controls for each room, Wi-Fi controls for every radiator controlled via your smartphone, iPad or laptop, increased heat efficiency, and lower heating bills. There are also secondary benefits with no need for gas safety checks, boiler inspections, maintenance, repairs and water pipes leaks.
